Elijah passed by him and cast his cloak upon him.1Ki 19:20 And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, “Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?”
1Ki 19:21 And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and assisted him.
1. What were you doing when God
you?
- When Elijah found Elisha, he saw him in the field
- Working, not wasting time.
- Jesus calls people from fields and fishing boats, accounting firms, and any place you have a hand to the plow!
Jesus Calls the First Disciples
Mrk 1:16 Passing along the beach of Lake Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew net-fishing. Fishing was their regular work.
Mrk 1:17 Jesus said to them, “Come with me. I’ll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I’ll show you how to catch men and women instead of perch and bass.”
Mrk 1:18 They didn’t ask questions. They dropped their nets and followed.
Mrk 1:19 A dozen yards or so down the beach, he saw the brothers James and John, Zebedee’s sons. They were in the boat, mending their fishnets.

- Commitment now equals an increase in power.
- Jesus calls us, and we choose to follow. He doesn’t drag us along.
- The invitation to step into the call is not indefinite or open ended.
Eternal Reward
Mat 19:26 Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”

Elisha Succeeds Elijah
