Our first “Starting Point” in our faith journey: “Me & Jesus”.
Before long, we move on to a new “Starting Point”: “We“, not just me.
John 13:34-35
[34] A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. [35] By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (ESV)
Jesus said the single most obvious evidence that we are one of His disciples (learner/follower) is if we have
This begs the obvious question: since “love” can mean so many things, what exactly does Jesus mean?
John 17:17-19,20-21, 23
[17] “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. [18] As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. [19] And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.”
[20] “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, [21] that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”(ESV)
[23] “I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.” (ESV)
“Progressive Sanctification” = the process by which God is conforming us to think, speak, & act like
God wants to use other believers to shape you to become like Jesus; to grow in
