Mark 10:17 (NLT)

… “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Mark 10:19-27 (NASB)

19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not give false testimony, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’ ”
20 And he said to Him, “Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth.”
21 Looking at him, Jesus showed love to him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
22 But he was deeply dismayed by these words, and he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.
23 And Jesus, looking around, *said to His disciples, “How hard it will be for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!”
24 And the disciples were amazed at His words. But Jesus responded again and *said to them, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”
26 And they were even more astonished, and said to Him, “Then who can be saved?”
27 Looking at them, Jesus *said, “With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.”

Jesus always will address the one thing.

When you make the special sauce of your fellowship with God (calling, faith, power, grace, money, etc.) more important than your relationship with God, He will bring you to CONFRONT the ONE THING.

The religious leaders operated in performance-based worship. With great pride in delivery, they trained the people of God to exalt performance above presence.

Psalm 50:7-9 (NLT)

7 “O my people, listen as I speak. Here are my charges against you, O Israel: I am God, your God!
8 I have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer.
9 But I do not need the bulls from your barns or the goats from your pens.

Empty ritualism was never meant to be the focus of our relationship with a loving God.

“What He intended for their instruction; they made their confidence.”
– Charles Spurgeon

Romans 10:4 (NASB)

For Christ is the end of the Law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Psalm 50:10-15 (NLT)

10 For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine.
12 If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it.
13 Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats?
14 Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High.
15 Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.”

Psalm 50:23 (NLT)

But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.”
