John 12:12-13 (NIV) The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem. 13 They took palm branches and went out to meet Him, shouting,
“Hosanna!”
“Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Blessed is the king of Israel!”
1. JESUS SAVES
Psalms 92:12 (NIV) The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
Palm branches were a national Jewish symbol of victory and liberation.
Hosanna means “Save Now!”
Psalms 118:25 (NIV)
25 LORD, save us!
LORD, grant us success!
Jesus came to be the Savior of the world.
The world needs Jesus to be their Savior.
John 12:14-15 (NIV)
14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:
15 “Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion;
see, your king is coming,
seated on a donkey’s colt.”
2. GOD PROVIDES
Zechariah 9:9 (NIV)
Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
righteous and victorious,
lowly and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
There is power in humility and peace.
God will provide!
John 12:16 (NIV) At first His disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him.
3. TODAY WILL MAKE SENSE TOMORROW
Believe that what you do not understand today will make sense one day.
John 7:37-39 (NIV) On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to Me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” 39 By this He meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
The Holy Spirit helps us.
John 12:17-18 (NIV) Now the crowd that was with Him when He called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word. 18 Many people, because they had heard that he had performed this sign, went out to meet him.
4. SPREAD THE WORD
Tell the story of what has been raised to life.
When you tell your story, others meet Jesus.
John 12:19 (NIV) So the Pharisees said to one another, “See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after Him!”
