Acts 2:36-38, 41
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified.” 37 Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.

Paul tells them the 2 essential things:
1.
Repent
2. Be baptized in the name of Jesus

Baptizo (Gk): means to immerse or plunge under water

Matthew 28:19-20
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Baptism is how Jesus told us to acknowledge that we receive His gift of salvation.

Matthew 3:13-15
13 Then Jesus *arrived from Galilee at the Jordan coming to John, to be baptized by him. 14 But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?” 15 But Jesus answering said to him, “Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he *permitted Him.

6 Life-Changing Truths of your salvation signified and symbolized by Baptism.

1. Baptism signifies a washing away of your sin.
Acts 22:16

Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.

2. Baptism signifies your death and resurrection to a New Life
Romans 6:3-4

Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

2 Corinthians 5:17
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

3. Baptism signifies gaining a clear conscience.
I Peter 3:21

Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

1 John 3:21
21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God;

4. Baptism signifies your birth into the Kingdom of God
John 3:5

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

5. Baptism signifies your adoption into Christ’s family.
Galatians 3:26-28

26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

6. Baptism is a public witness for Christ

If you refuse to follow Christ beyond your comfort zone, you are not really following Him and your life will never be transformed.

Mark 1:10-11
10 Immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him; 11 and a voice came out of the heavens: “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.”

Baptism is your symbolic guarantee of everything Jesus won for you on the cross.

The Christian life is simply remembering and living out your baptism every day. —Martin Luther
