3 John 2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.
1. Let’s be like Jesus today and talk about money and stuff.
Matthew 6:33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
2. Three prerequisites to financial and material well-being.
CONTENTMENT vs. CONSUMPTION
Philippians 4:11-14 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength. 14 Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles.
NICETIES vs. NECESSITIES
1 Timothy 6:8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.
1 Timothy 6:17-19 17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
OWNERSHIP vs. STEWARDSHIP
Psalm 24:1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;
3. God’s plan requires a mind-shift.
Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
4. Practice God’s plan for real prosperity.
Deuteronomy 8:18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms His covenant, which He swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
Deuteronomy 8:10-11 10 When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. 11 Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe His commands, His laws and His decrees that I am giving you this day.
Deuteronomy 8:17 You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.”
