In the same way, these people—who claim authority from their dreams—live immoral lives, defy authority, and scoff at supernatural beings. But even Michael, one of the mightiest of the angels, did not dare accuse the devil of blasphemy, but simply said, “The Lord rebuke you!” (This took place when Michael was arguing with the devil about Moses’ body.) But these people scoff at things they do not understand. Like unthinking animals, they do whatever their instincts tell them, and so they bring about their own destruction. What sorrow awaits them! For they follow in the footsteps of Cain, who killed his brother. Like Balaam, they deceive people for money. And like Korah, they perish in their rebellion. When these people eat with you in your fellowship meals commemorating the Lord’s love, they are like dangerous reefs that can shipwreck you. They are like shameless shepherds who care only for themselves. They are like clouds blowing over the land without giving any rain. They are like trees in autumn that are doubly dead, for they bear no fruit and have been pulled up by the roots. They are like wild waves of the sea, churning up the foam of their shameful deeds. They are like wandering stars, doomed forever to blackest darkness. Enoch, who lived in the seventh generation after Adam, prophesied about these people. He said, “Listen! The Lord is coming with countless thousands of his holy ones to execute judgment on the people of the world. He will convict every person of all the ungodly things they have done and for all the insults that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” These people are grumblers and complainers, living only to satisfy their desires. They brag loudly about themselves, and they flatter others to get what they want. But you, my dear friends, must remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ predicted. They told you that in the last times there would be scoffers whose purpose in life is to satisfy their ungodly desires. These people are the ones who are creating divisions among you. They follow their natural instincts because they do not have God’s Spirit in them. —Jude 8-19

Jude warns us of teachers in the last days.

Jude describes false teachers/teachings:

  • elevates subjective spiritual experiences above objective scriptural

    . (Jude 8)

  • Rebellious against authority and church leadership (Jude 8)

  • No reverence for or humility toward spiritual realitites (Jude 8-9)

  • Mocks, scoffs, & ridicules those who hold to biblical truth (Jude 10)

  • Selfish & self-centered leadership that leads to selfish & self-centered lifestyles (Jude 12)

  • Teaching and lifestyle that bears very little Christ-like

    of the Spirit (Jude 12)

  • Grumblers & complainers (Jude 16)

  • Boastful & bragging, bringing glory to “self” rather than directing glory to Christ (Jude 16)

  • Flatters others for popularity & selfish gain (Jude 16)

Common False Teachings Today:

THE IDOLATRY OF FEELINGS & EMOTIONS

“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. —Jeremiah 17:9

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. —Proverbs 3:5-6

DECONSTRUCTING CHRISTIANITY

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. —John 1:14

I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. —Matthew 5:18

ENHANCING SPIRITUALITY WITH SUBSTANCES

Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, —Ephesians 5:18

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. —1 Peter 5:8

And they did not repent of their murders or their witchcraft [pharmakeia] or their sexual immorality or their thefts. —Revelations 9:21

COMPROMISING CHRISTIAN SEXUAL ETHICS

God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor—not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways. —1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. —Hebrews 13:4

Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. —1 Corinthains 6:18

The guardrails against deception:

  • SCRIPTURAL ACCOUNTABILITY
  • FAITHFUL COMMUNITY
