Recap

• We have been saved by the Spirit and now we

in the Spirit. This is not an irrelevant part of the Christian life. This is a central focus of our life going forward.
• Keeping step with the Spirit is synonymous with being with the Spirit, walking in the light, and offering your body is as a living sacrifice (as we will see this Sunday).
• There is a learning to this. Like marriage, the longer we live and walk with the Spirit, the more we learn about how He moves. It’s not another list of rules, it is a relationship with a person.
• The starting point of this relationship, in terms of expressing it, is . We love God and we seek to love people.

The problem with love as the defines it.

• Love as the world defines it as unconditional acceptance. It is not rooted or grounded in anything but

.
• But this definition of love is a recipe for . What happens when certain claims conflict? Which one is determined to be true or morally valid, or good?
• We need a definition and an expression of love that is rooted in something , or outside of us. We need a definition of love that is not flimsy and subjective. It needs to be rooted in an authority on what is good and what will cause humanity to flourish.

The Spirit of

• Galatians 5:22-23 | But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

love seeks the benefit of the one who is loved, is a love which means death to self and defeat for sin since the essence of sin is self-will and self-gratification, is a love activated by personal choice of our will (surrendering to the leadership of the Holy Spirit) not based on our feelings toward the object of our love and is a love manifested by specific actions not just to fellow believers but to all men everywhere.
• The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of love who inspires His people to embody the same kind of love as Jesus.
• This balanced perspective on love is defined as this: Love without truth is not love and truth without love is not truth. The Spirit of from Galatians 5 is also called the Spirit of in John 14:17.
• As believers walk in the Spirit, the Spirit leads them to flesh out this balanced perspective of love in real scenarios that confound earthly wisdom.

// 1 Corinthians 2:13-14 | And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual. The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
// Matthew 7:7-8 | “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
// James 1:5 | If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
// Luke 12:11-12 | And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”

So, the end of the matter is this: Know and worship the God who has revealed the truth and then look to love those He puts in your path. This is the key to walking daily in the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
