Message Notes

“So many people live their lives disappointed about where they’ve been instead of looking forward with anticipation to where they are going.” —Brian Bloye

“Gratitude is a lifestyle, a hard-fought grace infused, biblical lifestyle.” —Nancy Demoss

How Does Gratitude Change My Life?

  • Gratitude causes us to be at peace

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” —Philippians 4:6-7

“Do not be calm about anything, but in everything, by dwelling on it constantly and feeling picked on by God, with thoughts like, ‘And this is the thanks I get,’ present your aggravations to everyone you know but Him. And the acid in your stomach, which transcends all milk products, will cause you an ulcer, and the doctor bills will cause you a heart attack, and you will lose your mind.” —Beth Moore

  • Gratitude causes us to be in God’s will

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” —I Thessalonians 5:18

  • Gratitude causes us to put our hope in God for all things.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” —James 1:17

  • Gratitude causes us to be generous to those in need.

  • Gratitude causes us to draw close to the heart of God.

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!” —Psalm 100:4

“Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!” —Psalm 95:2

  • Gratitude causes us to reflect the heart of Jesus.

“In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, ‘I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.’” —Luke 10:21

“So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, ‘Father, I thank you that you have heard me.’” —John 11:41

  • Gratitude causes us to be prepared for heaven.

“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” —Revelation 4:11

“And they said, ‘We give thanks to you, Lord God, the Almighty, the one who is and who always was, for now you have assumed your great power and have begun to reign.’” —Revelation 11:17

How Can We Begin to Experience the Power of Gratitude in Our Life?

  • Choose gratitude.

“Gratitude is a choice. If we fail to choose it, by default we choose ingratitude. And once allowed in the heart, ingratitude does not come by itself, but with other seedy companions that succeed at stealing our joy.” —Jon Gordon

  • Take a daily gratitude prayer walk.

  • Keep a gratitude journal

  • Write gratitude notes to others

  • Say thank you and be specific

“O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand? Turn and answer me, O Lord my God! Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die. Don’t let my enemies gloat, saying, ‘We have defeated him!’ Don’t let them rejoice at my downfall. But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.” —Psalm 13
