Five secrets of patient people

1. Realize

I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst sinner, Christ might display his unlimited patience… 1 Timothy 1:16 (See Matthew 18:21-35)

2. Rewire

Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him… do not fret—it leads only to evil. Psalm 37:7, 8b

He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul. Psalm 23:2,3a

3. Resist

Don’t hang out with angry people; don’t keep company with hotheads. Bad temper is contagious—don’t get infected. Proverbs 22:24-25 The Message

4. Revise

Be patient with each other, making allowances for each other’s faults, because of your love. Ephesians 4:2 NLT

There is a season for everything… Ecclesiastes 3:1

See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient… James 5:7-8a

5. Realize

Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone. Proverbs 25:15

The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. Ecclesiastes 7:8

QUESTIONS For personal reflection or group discussion
1. Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-4. When was the last time you were impatient? How did
you respond? What impact did it have on your attitude and relationships?
2. Read Romans 2:4. How have you seen God show patience to you in the past? How has God’s patience led you to repentance?
3. Read Colossians 3:12-13. What insight do these verses give you about patience? What would it look like for you to “clothe yourself in patience”? In what way are you currently struggling with patience? What would choosing patience look like in that situation?
