The Church Who Compromised

“To the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword. I know where you live—where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city—where Satan lives. —Revelation 2:12

Dear children, the last hour is here. You have heard that the Antichrist is coming, and already many such antichrists have appeared. From this we know that the last hour has come.

You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city —1 John 2:18

What Jesus Commends: You Remain True to my Name

Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas —Revelation 2:13

But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven. —Matthew 10:33

What Jesus Corrects: You hold onto false teaching

Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality. Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. —Revelation 2:14-16

There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam —Revelation 2:14
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. —Hebrews 4:12

  • feeling spiritually stagnant dropped 60%

  • viewing pornography dropped 60%

  • sharing your faith increased 20%

  • commitment to discipling other believers jumped 200%

Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. —Revelation 2:16

REWARD: Invitation and Intimacy

Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it. —Revelation 2:17
