Title: Surviving The Disappointments In Life
Text: Jeremiah 10:19
Date: September 22, 2024

Introduction: If there was ever a man in the Bible who just stayed after it while he experienced disappointments and personal tragedy, it was Jeremiah. We cannot read the story of him without realizing that life was not a bouquet of roses for this great prophet of God. From Jeremiah’s call in 626 BC, to the fall of his beloved Jerusalem in 586 BC, this prophet from Anathoth moved in the tragic circumstances of a lonely life. His task was to call his people to repentance. As he carried out his tasks, he found himself alienated from his friends and family, antagonized by his enemies, and afflicted by the hostility of his people. Jeremiah served the Lord faithfully for over forty years. He never compromised in his message or his loyalty. Jeremiah lived to see his beloved nation overrun by the enemy and his beloved city and temple completely destroyed.

If ever a man had a broken heart, it was Jeremiah. His book of prophecies bears witness to his burden, and the book of Lamentations, which he also wrote, has tearstains on almost every verse. Imagine serving God faithfully for a lifetime and in the end, seeing everything fall apart! Jeremiah could have died a bitter and broken man, but he did not.

Our text this morning records his courage and faith. Jeremiah 10:19, “Woe to me because of my injury! My wound is incurable! Yet I said to myself, ‘This is my sickness, and I must endure it.’” That statement is one of the greatest declarations of faith and faithfulness found anywhere in the Bible.

What can we learn from Jeremiah on the subject of disappointments? How can we survive the disappointments in life?

I. We must

for disappointments.

II. We must

our trust in when disappointments come.

III. We must

to heal our broken hearts and fulfill His desires in the midst of our disappointments.
