Acts 1:6-11
GET THIS: Because the gospel is good news for our neighbors and the nations—until Jesus comes back—we will be intentional about outward engagement!

Psalm 119:36 Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain!

Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn’t. Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate, not man. When the age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more. It is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever. —John Piper

The Outward Trajectory of The Kingdom

Read Acts 1:6-8

1. What Is The Mission? To be Jesus’ witnesses (μάρτυρος - someone who testifies to having seen and/or experienced a specific reality). And what we have seen is the transforming power of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus! PREACH THE GOSPEL! the mission is to testify to the transformative reality of the gospel!

2. WHERE is the mission?
-Jerusalem: right there at home! Where they were (which was actually a scary place at the time)
-All Judea: get outside the city…
-Samaria: If Judea is a geographical expansion, Samaria is a comfort zone expansion!
-To the end of the earth! Back to geography… and now the ends of the earth is the only limit!

According to Joshua Project, there are approximately 17,446 unique people groups in the world with 7,391 of them considered unreached (less than 2% of people are Christian) (that’s over 42% of the world’s population)! and according to Finishing the Task, there are 189 unengaged, unreached people groups, (totaling over 5.7 million people—souls, that are still beyond the reach of the Gospel). These 189 ethnic groups are perhaps the neediest of the needy as they are unengaged, which means that no one - no church, no missionary, no mission agency - has yet taken responsibility to tell them about Jesus Christ. —Joshua Project & Finishing The Task

Intentional Engagement of The Mission

Read Matthew 22:35-40 & Matthew 28:18-20 & Acts 1:9-11

1. Walk With Jesus Yourself

2. Walk With Jesus Before and Beside Your Neighbor

3. Walk With Jesus To The Ends Of The Earth

Other Scriptures: Genesis 1:28, 12:3; Revelation 7:9-10

Take Time To Reflect
Who is one person you know who is not a follower of Jesus? How can you invest yourself in their life in such a way that they can observe you walking with Jesus?
Are you prepared to answer someone who questions why you’re filled with hope, by pointing them to the finished work of Jesus on the cross?
How can you —specifically—invest your time, talents, and treasures in the mission of God?
