Questions:

  1. In what ways have you witnessed pride ruin relationships between people?

  2. We can develop areas of sin in our lives to which we are blind; we might call those areas “blind spots.” How does pride make those “blind spots” worse?

  3. Proverbs 29:23 says that “One’s pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.” How do you think that works?

  4. Read Micah 6:8. What does “walking humbly with God” look like, as you see it?

  5. Read Philippians 2:3-4. How does this description of “humility of mind” add to your understanding of being humble?

  6. What steps can we take to “walk humbly with God?” What steps can we take to consider others as more important than ourselves?

  7. Read Philippians 2:5-8. According to this passage, what are the ways Jesus serves as the perfect model of humility for us to follow?

  8. How would you explain the difference between “genuine” humility and “false” humility?

  9. Read Luke 18:10-14—the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector. Why is comparing yourself to other people so dangerous? (Hint: the answer is provided by Jesus in verse 14)

  10. In that parable, the tax collector called himself a sinner, asking for God’s mercy (verse 13). Why is this step so vital to walking in humility?
