The Coming of Jesus Matthew 24:29-31
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.” Matthew 24:29
Apocalyptic Literature
Isaiah 13:9-10 - “Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land a desolation and to destroy its sinners from it. For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be dark at its rising, and the moon will not shed its light.”*
Isaiah 13:17 - “Behold, I am stirring up the Medes against them, who have no regard for silver and do not delight in gold.”
Isaiah 13:19 - “And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the splendor and pomp of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them. It will never be inhabited or lived in for all generations.”
Jesus Signals Jerusalem’s Fall
“Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. But he answered them, “You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.” Matthew 24:1-2
“Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn,” Matthew 24:30
“…and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” Matthew 24:30
God’s Coming on the Clouds = His Judgment
“Behold, the Lord is riding on a swift cloud and comes to Egypt;
and the idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence, and the heart of the Egyptians will melt within them.” Isaiah 19:1
“And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” Matthew 24:31
