Isaiah Chapter 62 Verse 1
Chapters 61 and 62 truly go/fit together as one as in this chapter we
continue to hear the promises of God in a very specific way towards
Zion. God essentially says, “This is My word, I am on the clock,” and
I love that. I don’t just preach about trusting God’s word, I do trust it.
If God has said it, I know He is faithful to do it. One of the many
reasons why I continue to study and to search and to learn the word
of God! I rather enjoy knowing exactly what is going to happen! HA!
And He says here that once Zion’s salvation burns as a lamp, a beacon
of righteousness for the world, once that happens, God will hold His
peace and God will rest. I know, that’s a bit of a rearrangement of
verse 1 but essentially that is what is said here. And I do that to bring
up an interesting perspective that MANY have concerning the timing
of all things…
There’s only one other place in scripture that we see God rest and that
is Genesis Chapter 2 verses 1-2. “Thus, the heavens and the earth, and
all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended
His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from
all His work which He had done.” Tracing the genealogies of the
Bible, beginning with Adam, and according to reputable sources such
as Answers in Genesis, creation occurred approximately 4,000 years
before Jesus… So, Adam to Jesus was about 4,000 years…
Now, Jesus, of course, was 2,024 years ago. So, by the calculation
presented by Answers in Genesis and corroborated by the
genealogical historical account found in the bible, the earth is only a
little over 6,000 years old… Now I know the debate is hot on that
because there is definitely a ton of evidence pointing to an old earth…
Let me just say this…, when God created Adam, was Adam a baby?
By all accounts of creation, Adam was created a man. And thus, just
making this statement, Adam was created with the appearance of age.
So, I personally have no problem at all reconciling an appearance of
an old earth with only 6,000 years. Now, back to the perspective that I
find valid, interesting and exciting…, 2 Peter 3:8 says, “Beloved, do
not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand
years, and a thousand years as one day…”
So, bring it all together, in the creation timeline we are in the seventh
day…, and so at any moment, God could hold His peace, God could
rest again! I like that perspective! Until then…, and this was a promise
welcomed by the nation of Israel in Babylonian captivity, and even the
nation returned to Israel after that and yet the land was desolate, until
Zion beams like a lamp to the world, until that day, God will not rest.
We sleep, God does not… No breaks, no rest. He is always working
all things together for the good to those who love God, to those who
are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
Isaiah Chapter 62 Verse 2
That’s an interesting promise of God that in His kingdom, there are
some new names given. I like the sound of that because so far, I’ve
lived my life with the name Korniotes! HA! And while this is a
promise for Israel, there is also a similar promise found in Revelation
2:17.
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches
(so this is not a word given only to the church in Pergamos). To him
who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will
give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no
one knows except him who receives it.”
To me that doesn’t mean others won’t get to know that name. What
that means is that I will be given a name that reveals the real me. The
way only I know and am known by the Lord. It’s a picture of all
things being made new. It’s a picture of all things being just so perfect!
It’s a picture of incredible true intimacy between Jesus and me…
Isaiah Chapter 62 Verse 3
Another intensely encouraging promise! Why? Because in Isaiah 28:5
we read that its Jesus Himself who IS the crown of glory to the
remnant of His people. This one is thick will all sorts of meaning. Not
only does that mean that Jesus intends to share His Kingdom, I mean
that was and is the cross, we are grafted into the family of God
through His blood, but that also means that we glimpse that even a bit
now…
Romans 12, being transformed through sanctification into the
expressed image of God Himself in the Person of Jesus Christ… That
as we walk with Him, we become more like Him and shine like
heaven to the lost and suffering world! That’s wrapped up in the word
“remnant” in Isaiah 28… That speaks not of then, not in the time of
Zion as Isaiah 62 presents, but even now as the remnant remains…
AND, 1 Peter 5:1-4 says that this promise for Israel is also for ME!
YES! “The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow
elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of
the glory that will be revealed: Shepherd the flock of God which is
among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not
for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted
to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd
appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.”
What’s that all mean? I cannot wait to FIND OUT!!
Isaiah Chapter 62 Verse 4
Hephzibah means “My delight is in her.” Beulah means “Married.”
The position of sin, that position is forsaken and desolate. But the
position of righteousness is delight and family! It’s a teaching for sure,
a wonderful promise for sure and it’s a great picture of God’s purpose
even for marriage. For the wife to be the delight of her husband. Not
his judge. Not his ministry. Not his doubt. Not his problem. But his
delight… and vice versa!
Isaiah Chapter 62 Verses 5 – 7
Some say this speaks of the heralds of God. Those that have this call,
inspiration to constantly evangelize and proclaim the Word of God.
We need those people! AND, some say this speaks of the spiritual
realm. That God has set watchmen, angels, on duty in terms of Israel
who will work until the Lord returns…
Isaiah Chapter 62 Verses 8 – 10
Interesting because even today, right next to the temple mount, the
walls of the original temple mount lay piled up from the siege of the
Roman Emperor Titus in 70AD. A prophecy of Jesus fulfilled and
apparently a promise of full reconstruction when Jesus returns…
Isaiah Chapter 62 Verses 11 – 12
Only one source has the ability to tell us the end from the beginning
and that source is God through His Word. He knows the end from the
beginning and even though at the time Isaiah was writing this, things
were very difficult, God knows…, God promises…, God commits…,
stay the course, I have a plan and that plan for you is beyond good!
Galatians 6:9, “Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due
season we shall reap if we do not lose heart!”
