Other Minded Prayer
“Other Minded God”
September 10, 2023
Luke 15
Kevin Meyer
Intro:
How often do you pray for the salvation of others? Do you think regularly or feel deep compassion for those who are lost?
God, Our Father, Loves the Lost
- How do you see these stories in Luke 15 relate to prayer in the Bible?
- What do your prayer requests consist of?
- Paul Washer is quoted saying “we spend all our time praying to keep saints out of heaven than praying to get sinners into heaven.” Not that praying for health is bad on its own, but the priority might be misplaced sometimes. How does this relate or not to your prayer experience?
God, Our Father, Searches for Those Lost
- Do you live with the belief that God truly pursues your lost loved ones? Do you pray in earnest expectation for God’s pursuit of them?
- What evil in this world is particularly striking to you currently? Ask God to share his heart with you on a matter to pray for.
God, Our Father, Celebrates the Lost That is Found
- What do you notice about the character of God in the celebration of these three stories in Luke 15?
- What stands out as similar or different from the way we as humans might react in those circumstances?
- What role do feasts play in celebration in the Bible? How can celebrations be a practical way to practice other-mindedness?
Generic Questions that can also be asked:
- What stood out to you this week?
- Was there anything that you found confusing or troubling in the passages from this week?
- Did anything make you think differently about God?
- How might this change the way that we live?
