READ AGAIN: Luke 14:15-24

  1. Jesus replied to the man that speaks to Him at the table with a parable. (v.16) Why do you think Jesus spoke and taught in parables so much?
  2. The excuses that the invited guest give (v.18-20) are a tie back to an Old Testament instruction. (cf. Deuteronomy 20:5-7) Why do you think it would be impactful for Jesus to reference the Old Testament?
  3. With the excuses provided from the parable, what kind of excuses do you think we give in present day that parallels them?
  4. What is the significance that the host of the banquet turned his invitations to those on the street and the poor?
  5. Why do you think the host wanted his servant to invite those even further from him in order to fill his house? (v.23)
  6. How does this parable of the banquet teach us about the Kingdom of God?
  7. What “excuse” do you provide to keep you from Jesus’ invitation to live the life He has for you?
