Luke 22:31-38 (NIV)

31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat.

32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

33 But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.”

34 Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”

35 Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?”

“Nothing,” they answered.

36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.

37 It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”

38 The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.”

“That’s enough!” he replied.

Every disciple of Jesus Christ will face of faith (vv. 31).

These tests come from .

These tests are by our Sovereign God (“…has asked…”).

These tests are designed to you from your faith (“to sift… as wheat”).

When we face tests of faith, we have a (vv. 32-38).

We can turn to (v. 32, 35).

Or we can turn to our own (vv. 33-38).

Big Idea: Turn to the Lord, not your own resources, for the power to persevere when your faith is tested.

Remember that Jesus is for you, right now (v. 32a).

“but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” —Hebrews 7:24-25
“Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” —Romans 8:34
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” —Romans 8:26-27

Remember what God has for you already (v. 35).

Change your when your faith wavers (v. 32d).

Speak to other believers whose faith is being tested (v. 32e).
