Psalm 84:11
“The LORD God is a sun and shield”
Colossians 1:16b-17
Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else,
and he holds all creation together.
GOD WARNED THE ISRAELITES AGAINST WORSHIPPING THINGS THAT HAD BEEN CREATED.
The Sun Had The Potential To Become A Major Theological
The Sun Also Had The Potential To Be A Significant Theological
Psalm 19:1-6
The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known.
They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard.
Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.
God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.
It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race.
The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end.
Nothing can hide from its heat.
Like God, The Sun Is A Source Of Light And Life, Ultimately Pointing To His Character And Nature.
The Sun Speaks Of The Consistency And Faithfulness of God.
With The Sun, Just Like With God, There Is No Distinction Between What It Is And What It Does.
When Comparing God To The Sun, The Psalmist Emphasizes God’s Goodness.
Psalm 84:11
“The LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.”
The Sun Points To The Power And Majesty Of God.
The Power Of His Gravity.

How does knowing that Jesus holds all things together provide you with comfort and assurance in times of uncertainty?
Can you share an experience where you felt the “gravity” of Jesus holding your life together during a challenging time.
Just as the sun’s gravity creates order and harmony in the solar system how can/does Jesus’ presence bring order and harmony to every aspect of our lives (emotional, physical, spiritual and relational)?
How can the church, as the body of Christ, reflect Gods order and harmony in/to the community and the world?
Psalm 19:4-6 describe the sun’s consistent path across the sky.
How does this reflect God’s reliability and faithfulness in guiding our lives?
