Psalm 139:23 / CSB, “Examine me, God! Look at my heart! Put me to the test! Know my anxious thoughts!”

1.

on listening instead of lecturing
Matthew 7:1-2 / CSB, “Do not judge, so that you won’t be judged. 2 For you will be judged by the same standard with which you judge others, and you will be measured by the same measure you use.”

English/Greek Meaning:
Judge | krínō: to separate; to choose
Measure | métron: instrument for measuring

First John 1:8 / NLT, “If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth.”

John 7:51 / CSB “Our law doesn’t judge a man before it hears from him and knows what he’s doing, does it?”

2.

unhealthy thinking, and then help others
Matthew 7:3-5 / CSB, “Why do you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye but don’t notice the beam of wood in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the splinter out of your eye,’ and look, there’s a beam of wood in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First take the beam of wood out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother’s eye.”

hypokritḗs: an actor, stage player

John 8:7 / CSB “The one without sin among you should be the first to throw a stone at her.”

Galatians 6:1-3 / NLT, “Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. 2 Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. 3 If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.”

3. to discernment rather than judgement
Matthew 7:6 / CSB, “Don’t give what is holy to dogs or toss your pearls before pigs, or they will trample them under their feet, turn, and tear you to pieces.”

Psalm 119:169 / NLT, “O Lord, listen to my cry; give me the discerning mind you promised.”

James 1:19 / CSB, “My dear brothers and sisters, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger.”
