One Action at a Time

Brian Jennings
Mark 1:40-44

  1. Prepare your

    for action (Mark 1:35-39).

  2. Combine

    with action.

  3. Reach for

    – Enter action.

  4. Connect your actions with

    .

“What if we stopped assuming the people in our day were there by random accident?”

Prayer Challenge: Would you pray this prayer every day?
God, our heavenly Father, thank you for being with us today.
We know that you may need to do something in us before you do something through. We give you our hearts today.
Help us to see people as Jesus saw people.
We want to stop assuming that the people in our day are there by random accident.
Put me in close proximity to one person who needs you today. Place people in my heart.
May your Holy Spirit grant us wisdom, compassion, courage, and discernment.
Help us to be like you, changing the world, one at a time. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Discussion / Reflection Questions:

  1. Small Group Leaders: Show a short movie clip and ask some trivia questions about some of the actions that took place. Have fun with it. If you have kids in the group, include them.

  2. When is a time that someone took action to rescue or help you?

  3. Read Mark 1:40-44. Make a list of all the actions on a white board or piece of paper. (“came, knelt, begging…”)

  4. Why must we have our hearts prepared for action? What happens when we don’t?

  5. What’s the difference between sympathy and Jesus-like compassion?

  6. Take your best guess at describing the emotions of everyone in the story when Jesus reached out and touched the man with leprosy. (The man, Jesus, the disciples, the crowd)

  7. What’s the difference between a good action and an action connected with God’s Kingdom?

  8. Close with the Prayer we’ve been saying each week.
