1.- Sacrifices of a Soldier for Christ
Luke 9:57-58- 57 As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
You Can’t Hide as a Christian
Luke 9:59-60- 59 To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60 And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”
You Can’t Delay in Following Jesus
Luke 9:61-62- 61 Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” 62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
You Can’t Serve Jesus by Second-Guessing
Philippians 3:13-14- Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
2.- Marks of a Soldier for Christ
Luke 10: 1- After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go.
A - We are Appointed by the Lord (Luke 10:1)
B - We are Seled by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13 / Romans 8:9)
C - We Are Witnesses for Christ (Luke 10:1 / Acts 1:8)
D - We are Called to Make Disciples (Matthew 28:19)
Luke 10:2- 2 And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.
3.- Army of Christ is Deployed
Luke 10:3-4- 3 Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4 Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road.
4.- Victory is in Heaven
Luke 10:18-20- 18 And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. 20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
