The Table- Week 1
God Is Looking for You
After the death of King Saul and his son, Jonathan, David began to search for someone in the bloodline of Saul. Jonathan had been like a brother to David and he wanted to honor his friend by showing favor to any of his descendants.
“Now David said, “Is there still anyone who is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?””
II Samuel 9:1 NKJV
Just as David wanted to restore to Jonathan’s family everything that was lost, Jesus came to restore everything that was lost to mankind.
“for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Luke 19:10 NKJV
David found out that Jonathan had a son named Mephibosheth who was still alive. But he was told the young man was lame in both feet. However, his condition didn’t phase the King, who sent for Mephibosheth to be brought to him.
Mephibosheth came in fear and shame.
So many times man runs from God because of fear and shame.
“Now when Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, had come to David, he fell on his face and prostrated himself. Then David said, “Mephibosheth?” And he answered, “Here is your servant!” So David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.” Then he bowed himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I?”
II Samuel 9:6-8 NKJV
Everything that was Sauls was restored to Mephibosheth.
“And the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said to him, “I have given to your master’s son all that belonged to Saul and to all his house. You therefore, and your sons and your servants, shall work the land for him, and you shall bring in the harvest, that your master’s son may have food to eat. But Mephibosheth your master’s son shall eat bread at my table always.” Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.”
II Samuel 9:9-10 NKJV
Everything man lost has been restored through Christ.
Seated at the Kings table.
“So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem, for he ate continually at the king’s table. And he was lame in both his feet.”
II Samuel 9:13 NKJV‘
“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
John 14:2 NKJV
