Malachi 4:1-6
4:1-3 | Being left with neither root nor branch portrays complete devastation, like the scorched earth and ashes that a wildfire leaves behind. In contrast to the fate of the wicked, the people who fear God’s name will see a new day. The Sun of Righteousness depicts the restoration of God’s blessing and joy. In God’s new kingdom, righteousness will pervade like the sun, and its restorative powers will heal like the sun’s healthful rays.
4:4 | The Law of Moses was God’s rule of life for Israel; through it, His people are blessed and discover the fulfilled life. Remember sometimes means “remember as to obey” (Num. 15:39-40; Ps. 103:18).
4:5-6 | The NKJV suggests that the task of the prophet was to restore peace between the generations, but it may be better translated where the entire community – young and old – return to the Lord.
