SAYING GOOD-BYE IS DIFFICULT
JOHN 14:1-10 ESV Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.
THE BIBLE EASES OUR BURDENS
PSALM 119:50 ESV This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.
FOUR TIMES JESUS PREDICTED HIS DEATH AND RESURRECTION
1) Matthew 16:21 Jesus began to explain that he must go to Jerusalem, suffer at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and teachers of the law, be killed, and on the third day be raised to life.
2) Matthew 17:22-23 Jesus tells them that he will be betrayed, killed, and raised on the third day.
3) Matthew 20:17-19 On the way to Jerusalem, Jesus describes how he will be condemned to death, mocked, flogged, crucified, and raised on the third day
4) Matthew 26:31-32 After the Last Supper, Jesus predicts that after being raised from the dead, he will go ahead to Galilee
THE WORD MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Psalm 119:92 ESV “If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.
THE WORD PREPARES US FOR THAT DAY
1 THESSALONIANS 4:13-18 ESV But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
I WANT TO LEAVE YOU IN A BETTER PLACE THAN PHILLIP
JOHN 14:8-10 ESV Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.
Be blessed in all that you do!
