how many times have I preached something and you went hmmmm… then went and double-checked scripture, not etp, to see if it was true… that’s a good thing…
Acts 17:11… “people listened eagerly… searched Scriptures daily… to see if it was true…”
1Cor 8:2… “ if anyone thinks he knows anything… doesn’t yet know as he ought…”
today’s message is normal and necessary… but one etp will fight hard against… preached it before… remember, can take 14 times before message registers…
three baptisms… by HS into family… by leader into water… by Jesus into HS… each separate, unique, distinct… not denominational, but biblical…
1Cor 12:12-14… “we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body…”
Rom 6:3-6… “all of us were baptized into Christ…”
Acts 2:41… “those who believed… were baptized…”
Acts 10:47-48… “can anyone withhold water… for being baptized…”
Matt 3:11… “I baptize with water… but He Himself will baptize you with HS…”
Mark 1:8… “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit…”
family baptism saves us (belief in Jesus)… water baptism identifies us, not saves…
John 6:40-47… “everyone and anyone who believes in Jesus has eternal life…”
Rom 10:9-10… “confess with mouth… believe in heart… you will be saved…”
Matt 28:19… “go and make disciples… baptizing them in Father, Son, HS…”
Acts 8:38-39… “went down into the water… came up out of the water…”
A man who knows he is saved by believing in Christ… does not… when he is water baptized… make his baptism into a saving ordinance. In fact, he is the very best professor against that mistake… because he holds he has no right to be baptized until he is saved. —Charles Spurgeon
etp doesn’t fight against those very much… but there’s still something missing… something extremely powerful… something very biblical… something completely different than family or water baptism… baptism by Jesus into the Holy Spirit…
John 7:39… “those who believed were going to receive Spirit… not yet given…”
Acts 8:12-17… “believed… water baptized… prayed to receive Holy Spirit…”
Acts 18-19… “believed… baptized… laid hands, HS came on them…”
not just for apostles… Matt 3 is before any were called… Acts 8 was 5 years after Pentecost… Acts 19 was 25 years after and church was still preaching the need to be baptized into HS… why, because spirit baptism empowers you…
Acts 1:8… “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you…
Jesus did miracles… apostles did miracles… early church did miracles… blind saw, deaf heard, lame walked, dead rose… why aren’t we seeing that as much today…
John 14:12… “believe… do works I do… and will do greater works than these…”
John 21:25… “if everything Jesus did was written… not enough books to contain…”
could it be… we are not operating in the same power they had… for instance, how was Jesus able to perform miracles… was it because He was God, no… how were the apostles able to do miracles… was it because they were with Jesus, no…
Phil 2:7… “He emptied Himself… by taking on the likeness of men…”
kenoo… lay aside equality with God; deprive of force; make of no effect…
Acts 14:8-20… “why are you worshipping us… we are men just like you…”
miracles Jesus did… did as man empowered by the HS, not God…

Luke 4:13-19… “filled with HS power… Spirit upon Me, He has anointed Me…”
Acts 10:36-38… “God anointed Jesus with the HS and with power…”
chrio… furnish Jesus with necessary power; give Christians the gift of HS…
miracles apostles did… miracles we do today are only possible with power of HS… that power is provided to us when we are baptized by Jesus with the Spirit…
Acts 1:5-8… “be baptized with HS… receive power when HS comes on you…”
dynamis… power, ability; power for performing miracles; moral, physical, financial…
2Cor 1:20-22… “God anointed us… put His Spirit into our hearts…”
chrio… furnish Jesus with necessary power; give Christians the gift of HS…
1John 2:20-27… “have anointing… anointing remains in you… teaches you…”
chrisma… special endowment of the Holy Spirit…
if you want supernatural power in your life… this is normal and necessary… it is also a choice… HS in us at salvation… us in HS at Spirit baptism…
Luke 3:22… “HS descended on Him… You are My beloved Son…”
Acts 2:1-4… “tongues, like fire, rested… all were filled with the Holy Spirit…”
Acts 8:14-17… “prayed to receive HS… not yet come on them… received HS…”
Acts 10:43-48… “HS came down… HS was poured out on the Gentiles…”
Acts 19:1-6… “when Paul laid hands on them… HS came on them…”
are you still going hmmmm… how about some other benefits to Spirit baptism…
Sharing Good News
Matt 10:20… “not you who speak… but the Spirit of our Father in you…”
Luke 12:12… “HS will teach you at that time what must be said…”
Acts 2:1-4… “filled with HS… Spirit gave them the ability to speak…”
Better Communication with God
Rom 8:26… “HS helps us… don’t know what to pray… HS Himself prays for us…”
1Cor 14:2… “talking only to God… speaking by the power of the Holy Spirit…”
Eph 5:17-20… “understand what God wants you to do… be being filled with HS…”
Bold in Persecution / Powerful in Warfare
Acts 3… “in name of Jesus, walk… why are you amazed… sent Him to bless you…”
Acts 4… “by what power did you heal… filled with HS… by the name of Jesus…”
Acts 13… “filled with HS… stared at sorcerer… son of devil… and the people believed…”
only two things keep you from abundant life… lack of knowledge and unbelief… don’t wait any longer… trust God’s word, not etp… not why, but why not…
Hosea 4:6… “people destroyed from lack of knowledge… or rejected knowledge…”
Eph 4:18… “excluded from life… because of ignorance and a heart heart…”
how do you get baptized by Jesus Himself with the HS…
Acts 1:4-8… “do not leave… wait for the gift the Father has promised…”
Acts 19:1-6… “haven’t heard there is a HS… when they heard… HS came…” 1John 5:14-15… “ask anything according to His will… have what you ask…”
