Matthew 11:11-24
GET THIS: Cynicism and apathy are dangerous diseases that only Jesus can cure. And left unchecked, they will lead to destruction.

The Kingdom of God is Here! (v11-15)

Read Matthew 11:11-15

To want all that God wants, always to want it, for all occasions and without reservations, this is the kingdom of God —Archbishop François Fénelon

Other Scriptures: Matthew 3:1-2; Matthew 4:17; Malachi 4:5

The Disease of a Critical Spirit (v16-19)

Read Matthew 11:16-19

To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable. —C.S. Lewis

The Destructive Nature of An Apathetic Posture (v20-24)

Read Matthew 11:20-24

Other Scriptures: Isaiah 53:3; Hebrews 12:2; Matthew 11:28-30

Take Time To Reflect
(1) Do you notice a cynical spirit taking root anywhere in your life? How can you bring this to Jesus (maybe even with His people) this coming week?
(2) Have you grown apathetic to the urgency of following Jesus in the ways of His Kingdom (not yours)? How can you pursue awakening this coming week?
(3) Have you wounded or crushed the spirit of any brothers and sisters in Christ, when you could have been an authentic presence in their life uprooting cynicism and apathy? How can you repent to them in love this coming week?
