2. God created man with a ; an innate understanding of the requirements of God’s Law is written in our HEA_R_TS. (Romans 1:18-20, 2:15; 1 Timothy 1:19, 4:2; Ephesians 4:18-19; Titus 1:15)

3. If we could keep God’s Law , we’d ‘make it to heaven’, but this is - and highlights our need for a . (Romans 3:20; James 2:10; Galatians 2:16, 3:10, 5:3; Romans 5:13; Matthew 16:27; Titus 3:5)

Taking it Further to Help You THRIVE…

  1. Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?

2. James 1:22 says, “…be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” Why is it dangerous to be hearers only? What does a ‘hearer only’ look like? What is one way you struggle to put God’s Word into practice in your life?

3. A great prayer to pray before we read God’s Word is this: “Father, help me understand what I am about to read.” Then, a great prayer to pray after we read is this: “Father, since what I just read is true, how will it change my life?” (That is, what will I DO with what I just read?) Choose a few verses of Scripture you have read recently (or choose some now) and discuss HOW you can put these verses into practice.

4. Are people who have never heard the Law (or the gospel) exempt from God’s judgment? Explain your answer (using primarily Romans 2.)

5. What are some outward acts, traditions, rites, etc. in which people put their trust for salvation or security? How might we respond to someone who says these actions are ‘necessary’?
