Main Idea: Spaces & Places: Sea of Galilee
Check-In (Highs & Lows) 15 min
A great, quick way to catch the highlights of what is happening in the lives of the people in your group is to take turns quickly sharing the “highs & lows” of your week. High: What was your biggest highlight since we last met? Low: What was the low point during this time?
Settle-In (Ice-Breaker) 10 min
Share a place or space that holds significant memories or emotions for you. How does that place make you feel, and why?
Dig-In (Scripture) 35 min
1. Explore the story of Peter’s calling in Matthew 4. What was unique about Peter’s call to be a disciple of Jesus? How did this moment change his life, and what can we learn from it?
2. Read Matthew 16:17-19. What space and place is Jesus calling Peter into? What are the implications, both short and long term, that come from placement?
3. Read John 21:7. What is the significance of Peter’s response to recognizing Jesus?
4. When Peter denies Jesus, it’s a pivotal moment in their relationship. How does Jesus address Peter’s denial in John 21?
5. What does the repetition of Jesus asking Peter if he loves him signify in John 21:15-17? How did Jesus use this moment to call Peter into his mission?
Gear-Up (Application) 15 min
1. Think about a time when you felt distant from God due to past mistakes or shame. How did you overcome this distance, and what steps can you take to experience healing and restoration in your relationship with God?
2. Consider someone in your life who may be struggling with shame, guilt, or a sense of unworthiness in their relationship with God. How can you encourage and support them in finding forgiveness and healing?
3. Reflect on the idea of being called into the mission of Jesus. In what ways can you actively engage in God’s mission to reach and help others, both within your community and beyond?
Step-Up (Homework)
Take some time this week to pray and reflect on any areas in your life where you might be carrying guilt, shame, or unforgiveness. Write down these areas and seek to open up and confess them to God, asking for his forgiveness and healing. Additionally, consider how you can be more intentional in pursuing God’s mission in your daily life, whether through acts of kindness, sharing the gospel, or serving others in need.
