Building Your Path for Spiritual Growth

INTRODUCTION

You were MADE FOR M.O.R.E.! When you follow someone, you tend to become like them. Following Jesus moves you from where you are to where need to be as His follower. Jesus asked the twelve disciples to follow Him because He knew they were MADE FOR M.O.R.E. Just like He asked them, He asks each of us who believe in Him for salvation to follow Him as well. He gave us all one task – go and make disciples who make disciples. The essence of discipleship is a changed life that comes from a transformed heart.

This four-part teaching series will help you understand what it means to be a disciple who makes disciples.

TODAY’S TAKEAWAY:

Being MISSIONAL is viewing yourself as part of the multiplying movement of Jesus in the world.

MADE FOR M.O.R.E. WEEK 1:

FOLLOWING JESUS WILL MAKE US MISSIONAL

I. WE ARE TO BE OF JESUS (v. 19a)

A. Following Jesus means

and Him.

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.” —Colossians 2:6-7
“and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.” —2 Corinthians 5:15

B. Following Jesus requires

Him by faith.

Following and faith are bound together. People who obey God trust Jesus, and those who trust Jesus obey God.

“But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.” —1 John 2:5-6
“Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.” —Psalm 37:5

Application: When we hang out with Jesus,
we will act like Jesus.

II. WE ARE TO BE BY JESUS (v. 19b)

A. It is not about who you were

Christ, but rather about who you become Christ.

“Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” —Mark 1:17
“as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16because it is written, “BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.” —1 Peter 1:14-16
“for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” —Philippians 2:13

B. Jesus takes

people and both develops and enables them to do things.

“Your hands have made me and fashioned me, An intricate unity;…” —Job 10:8a
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” —Ephesians 2:10
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” —Jeremiah 29:11

Application: Jesus is not interested in making a better
version of you. He is interested in people seeing Christ in you.

III. WE ARE TO BE FOR JESUS (v. 19c)

A. Jesus

us.

“for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” —Luke 19:10
“This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.” —1 Timothy 1:15

B. Jesus

us.

“So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” —John 20:21
“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” —Mark 16:15
“Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” —Luke 14:23
“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: ‘Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me.’” —Isaiah 6:8

Application: A true follower of Jesus can’t help but
go out and share the Gospel.
