Tear the Roof Off
The Gospel of Luke

But this isn’t just a story about physical healing. It’s a story about faith, about friendship, and about something even more powerful than a miracle.
And yet Luke adds:
“And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick.”
That’s key. The room might’ve been filled with skepticism, but the power of God was there. Jesus was ready. Heaven was already moving.
Faith That Won’t Quit
They go up on the roof, tear off tiles, and lower their friend—right
down in front of Jesus. That is what faith looks like.
It’s not always polite.
It’s not always clean.
But it’s bold. It’s desperate. It’s determined.
Everyone came for a healing. This man’s problem is obvious, he’s paralyzed. He can’t walk. But Jesus says, “Your sins are forgiven.”
Why?
Because Jesus sees what we don’t.
He sees the deeper need.
Jesus wants us to go deeper in our faith.
Religious Pushback
They don’t celebrate the miracle. They don’t praise God for forgiveness. They accuse. They judge. They resist.
Be careful. Sometimes religion can make you miss the move of God right in front of you.
Jesus Reads the Room
Luke 5:23 (NIV)
Luke 5:24 (NIV)
He Gets Up
If God has called you to something don’t allow the things around you to allow you to walk away!
The Crowd Responds
The Greek word is paradoxa— Paradoxa. Where we get “paradox.”
It means things that don’t make sense.
The crowd saw something that defied their expectations.
They expected a teacher, but they saw God.
They expected healing, and got forgiveness.
They expected rules, and found mercy.
They went home saying, “We have seen things today we can’t explain.”
What Does This Mean for Us?
Some of us are like the paralyzed man, stuck. You feel spiritually numb. You want healing, but Jesus is offering something deeper. Forgiveness. Freedom. Restoration. He wants to heal your heart before He heals your life
He’s here to invite you to believe, trust, and come alive again.
