Sermon Series: Ezekiel
Sermon Title: Lead On, Good Shepherd!
Passage: Ezekiel 34
Speaker: Steve Howell

Use the following questions and directions based on today’s sermon as a starting point for spiritual discussions with your family or a small group of Christian friends this week.

‌‌Fellowship—Relationship with a Purpose

  • Are you a good follower? How much do you complain when you follow others’ direction or guidance? Explain.

Growth—Thinking About Spiritual Matters

  • Who are the present shepherds in Ezekiel 34? In what ways does the analogy of sheep/shepherd accurately describe the relationship between people and their leaders?

  • In this chapter, the leaders benefit from their position but don’t use their power to help the people. Have you seen the same type of pattern in leaders today? How does that exploitation create bitterness and destroy hope?

  • Read Ezekiel 34:11. Who is taking over? How will His leadership be different? List some of the actions God plans to do from verse 12-16.

  • Abuse doesn’t always come from leadership. In what ways do we “sheep” muddy the waters for each other? How do we make it harder for others to follow Jesus?

  • Read John 10:1-18. What parallels do you see between Jesus’ identity as the “Good Shepherd” and God’s claims in Ezekiel 34? What additional information does Jesus bring?

  • How do you react to Jesus’ claims of being the “Good Shepherd?” Why do some people find it so difficult to follow Him? How would you answer their objections?

Prayer – Taking Your Thoughts to God

  • Pray for humility to follow Jesus as He leads you.

  • Pray for the lost sheep – the ones Jesus wants to bring into the flock. Ask for boldness to talk about Jesus with them!
