PERSEVERANCE

Pastor Jeremy Helmuth
2 Thessalonians 2:9-12
October 27-29, 2023

Reject the “LIE”
Satan convinces countless skeptics that all they need to believe is to see a miracle. But does witnessing a supernatural act of God really help transform people’s hearts into followers of Christ?

If we could

Accept the “TRUTH”
We might be struck with awe from seeing a powerful miracle, but that does not automatically change our hearts. If observing mighty signs and wonders will not save us, then what will convert us?

If we love the

Repent before it’s TOO LATE
Those who live selfishly, ignoring God, will come under a delusion eventually. Right now, we see glimpses of how the lost are gravely mistaken in their thinking. But during the great tribulation, the nonbelievers’ depravity will be like nothing we’ve ever encountered.

Discussion Questions

Do you need ALL of your QUESTIONS answered?
Many people state that they cannot believe because they don’t have all their questions answered. But there comes a moment when someone must believe by faith. When does this moment come for the believer? How many of your questions must be answered before you are satisfied enough to turn your life over to Jesus Christ? Are you willing to accept that there is some mystery when it comes to God?

Why don’t MIRACLES necessarily build up our faith?
Study the different miracles Jesus performed around Capernaum (Mark 1:21-34; 2:1-12; Luke 7:1-10; Mt 12:9-13). Why did Jesus confront this town (Mt 11:23)? Also, why did only one out of the ten lepers who were cleansed have a believing faith (Luke 17:11-19)?

What does it mean to LOVE the TRUTH?
“Loving the truth” means that you acknowledge Jesus as God and He begins to live inside you (1 John 4:15). Once you have the light (God) inside you, you can see the path God has laid out for you clearly and you obediently follow this lamp. Are you obedient to God’s Word, or do you pick and chose who and what you want to follow?

Why is REPENTANCE vital to our BELIEF?
When Jesus started to preach, He said, “repent” (Mt 4:17). When John the Baptist started to preach, he said, “repent” (Mt 3:2). When Peter started to preach, he said, “repent” (Acts 2:38). These three preachers commanded anyone who wanted to be saved to repent. There is the one-time repentance where we turn to God and are saved, but there is also a daily repentance (Mt 16:24). Are you daily turning to God in your personal life?

Do you speak the TRUTH in LOVE?
The world wants us to speak love, but despises us when we speak truth, even if it is covered in love. How can you dedicate your life to “rejoicing with the truth” (1 Cor 13:6) no matter what the pressure?
