Lesson Overview:
In our day and age a majority of people believe in either Universalism (In the end everybody will be saved) or Pluralism (All religions are basically the same). In recent polls, even around half of evangelical Christians say they believe these two lies. Even many of those who believe Christ to be the only way to Heaven are a little squeamish about pushing that belief on others, feeling like it comes across as narrow-minded and offensive. Let’s compare that with Jesus’ own words.
Read John 14:6 - Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Discuss the difference between the word “A” and the word “The.” When it comes to spending eternity in Heaven, how many different paths does Jesus gives us?
What do you think when people say that Christians are Narrow-Minded, Arrogant, Dogmatic, Intolerant, and Offensive? True or not true? Why or why not?
What is the problem with the mentality “All Roads Lead Home” when it comes to eternity?
Read Acts 4:12. What are some different paths people believe will get them into Heaven? (Being good, Helping the poor, Going to church, Believing in God, etc)
Read Matthew 7:21-23. These are some of the saddest words in all of Scripture. This means a lot of people who sit in church every week will not go to Heaven. Discuss.
What excuses do people make for not following Christ? Are any of those excuses valid?
Are we willing to be called Narrow-Minded, Arrogant, Dogmatic, Intolerant, and Offensive, if it means leading some people to Christ? This is really where the rubber hits the road.
What truth from this lesson do you need to learn today?
