I. Christ is Light (vv. 8:12)
John 8:12-20
12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” 13 So the Pharisees said to him, “You are bearing witness about yourself; your testimony is not true.” 14 Jesus answered, “Even if I do bear witness about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from or where I am going. 15 You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. 16 Yet even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for it is not I alone who judge, but I and the Father who sent me. 17 In your Law it is written that the testimony of two people is true. 18 I am the one who bears witness about myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness about me.” 19 They said to him therefore, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” 20 These words he spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple; but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.
A. In Christ is life….(cf. John 1:4-5; John 9:15)
John 1:4-5

15 So the Pharisees again asked him how he had received his sight. And he said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, and I washed, and I see.”
B. Men love darkness…. (cf. John 3:19)
John 3:19
19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.
C. We, His church, are a light on a hill…. (cf. Matthew 5:14)
Matthew 5:14
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
II. Bearing Witness….(vv. John 8:13-18)
A. Jesus and the Father testify…. (cf. John 5:31, 39)

John 5:39

B. Human standards fall short…. (cf. Isaiah 55:8-9; John 7:24)
Isaiah 55:8-9
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
John 7:24
24 Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”
C. Witness according to Hebrew law…. (cf. Deut. 19:15; John 5:37)
Deuteronomy 19:15
15 “A single witness shall not suffice against a person for any crime or for any wrong in connection with any offense that he has committed. Only on the evidence of two witnesses or of three witnesses shall a charge be established.

37 And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen
III. Knowing God…. (vv. John 8:19-20)
A. Do we know Him?…. (cf. John 14:6-7; John 17:3, 25-26)
John 14:6-7
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
John 17:3
3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
John 17:25-26
25 O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. 26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
B. Jesus perseveres….(cf. Hebrews 3:14-15)
Hebrews 3:14-15
14 For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. 15 As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
Final Thought: Ephesians 5:8
8 for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
