Background of Romans

• Written by Paul to the Romans (by his scribe, Tertius)
• The book was written between AD 56-58 during Paul’s third missionary journey while he was in Corinth
• Paul was commissioned to carry the Gospel to the Gentiles after his radical encounter with Jesus
• The book addresses the great tension in the church at Rome between the Jews and Gentiles as it seeks unity in the church
