Proverbs 27:5-6 ESV Better is open rebuke than hidden love. 6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.


Matthew 7:1-5 ESV Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.


Galatians 6:1 ESV Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted


2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.


TYPES OF SIN TO REBUKE

PERSONAL SIN AGAINST YOU

MATTHEW 18:15-17 ESV If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.


1 Timothy 5:20 ESV As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear


SIN’S AGAINST OTHERS

  1. Sexual Sin - (Paul rebukes Corinth for tolerating sexual sin 1 Cor 5:1-5)
  2. Sins against the Body of Christ - (Paul rebukes Peter for his hypocrisy in withdrawing from Gentile believers Galatians 2:11-14)
  3. False Teachings - Paul instructs Titus to rebuke false teachers sharply so that they may be sound in the faith Titus 1:13)

  1. Pray for
  2. Examine your first
  3. Use not your opinoins
  4. Be
  5. Focus on
