Just Do It - James’ Heads Up to Believers

Next Steps

Message Summary

There is a danger we all face in life. It is complacency. Becoming complacent can happen when we plateau in life or when life is so overwhelming that it is difficult to move on. God does not desire us to live in complacency derived from either of these sources. This week, we examined how God desires us to combat complacency in our lives by patiently and persistently persevering through the ups and downs of life.

1) Have you ever been complacent? If you are comfortable, Share the circumstances of your complacency and the effects it had in your life?

2) Why do you think it is easy to become complacent?

3) What is the danger in becoming complacent in your faith?

Consider This

Read James 5:1-12

1) How does material wealth/possessions sometimes prevent us from living as God intended?

2) Why does it matter how wealth/possessions are obtained?

3) How does James implore individuals to live?

4) What example(s) does he use to make his point? How does this profession exemplify patience and perseverance?

5) What does James ask believers to avoid? What is the danger to us if we do not avoid it?

6) How does patient perseverance help us avoid compliancy?

7) Why do you think difficult circumstances and suffering often lead to compliancy as well?

8) How can we not let these difficult experiences define our lives?

9) James, in verse 11, reminds us, “The Lord is full of tender mercy and loving concern.” How does this truth help us face difficult circumstances? Where, in your life, have you seen this truth play out?

10) What does James implore us to do in verse 12? Why do you think this is important?
