As Dr. Lo teaches from Isaiah 6, listen for insights to the following:

What happened while Isaiah was in the temple?

What did Isaiah have to get his eyes off of?

What did Isaiah have to get his eyes focused on?

What is the significance of the “live coal”? How does this ‘significance’ relate to missions?

Before Isaiah was given a mission, he had to receive what?

How does Acts 1:8 relate to Isaiah 6?

Next Week: Mission Conference: Building the Global Church Week 2

SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

WARM UP: Share a circumstance, challenge, or sorrow you have experienced that caused you to draw close/closer to God. Did God bring anything good out of that experience?

HEAD: These questions help us examine the Word.
1. Read Isaiah 6:1-8. How did the events of this passage affect Isaiah?
2. Dr. Lo pointed out that Isaiah enjoyed many advantages as a man. What were they? Do you think his “advantages” were a help or a hindrance to Isaiah as this scene unfolded? How so?
3. Read Acts 1:8. Think of Jerusalem as ‘those who are here with us,’ of Judea as ‘those who are living near us,’ of Samaria as ‘those who are hard to reach – socially, politically, culturally, etc.,’ and of the end of the earth as ‘those geographically far from us.’ Does Jesus say we will be His witnesses to the ‘here’ OR the ‘near’ OR the ‘hard’ OR the ‘far’? What word does He use instead of “or”? How does this one word change the implications of this verse?
4. What is the connection between Isaiah 6 and Acts 1:8?

HEART: These questions help us wrestle with what we believe.
5. What advantages do you enjoy? Do they help or hinder your service for Jesus? How so?
6. If God was to call you as He did Isaiah, what would you have to take your eyes off of in order to willingly follow Him? What will you have to fix your eyes on in order to fully embrace the implications of Jesus’ declaration in Acts 1:8?
7. Are you ready to follow Jesus wherever He sends you, or do you tend to pick and choose how and where you will serve? Are you satisfied with your approach? Is God satisfied?

HAND: These questions help us bring truth and beliefs into our everyday life.
8. What practical ways can Trinity apply Isaiah 6 and Acts 1:8 to our ministry of outreach?
9. What role will you, as an individual, play in this task?
