ICEBREAKER: How do you handle unexpected news?


Read Matthew 1:18-25


What does this passage tell us about Joseph? How does Joseph respond to the news of Mary’s pregnancy? How does Joseph’s plan upon hearing this news reveal his heart? How do you think you would respond if you were in his shoes?


The angel visits Joseph in a dream and explains what is happening. What reason does the angel give for Jesus’ birth? Why is it essential that Jesus is born to a virgin?


Matthew tells us that this is fulfilling the words of Isaiah; reread verse 23. How has Jesus been “God with us” in your life?
