The bible actually commands us to have regular staycations
It just calls it by a different name…Sabbath.
Main Idea:
Sabbath rest is like a regularly planned staycation.
It is a designated time meant to cease work and rest in God.
Exodus 20:8-11
8 “Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 You have six days each week for your ordinary work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy. NLT

Matthew 11:28-30

38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” 41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” NLT

When we take the sabbath seriously.
It shows we prioritize reliance on God more than reliance on ourselves.
Hebrews 4:11
Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest NIV
When do I take the sabbath, my schedule is crazy?
1. Put sabbath rest moments on your calendar and don’t fill them.
2. Find people to “trade off” with.
3. Chose a family activity that brings you joy and doesn’t drain you.
4. Turn daily time fillers into small sabbath moments.
Remember:

TAKE HOME:
Applying the principles of Sabbath (rest and time with God) regularly to our life shows God we trust Him and we acknowledge we can’t do it on our own.
