“Jesus Is Lord” … Recap

  • Is a saving declaration.

Romans 10:9 (NIV)
If you declare with your mouth “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

  • Is a Spirit-led declaration.

1 Corinthians 12:3 (NIV)
… no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.

“Jesus Is Lord” …

  • Is where all of history is headed.

Philippians 2:9-11 (NIV)
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

  • Now.

Matthew 28:18 (NIV)
… “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”

Ephesians 1:20-21 (NIV)
… he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

Matthew 28:17 (NIV)
When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.

1 Corinthians 15:24-26 (NIV)
Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

N. T. Wright
Kyrios Iesous, Jesus is Lord, was the earliest confession of Christian Faith, the thing you had to say before you got baptized. Confessing that Jesus was Lord—meaning, among other things, that Caesar wasn’t—was basic, bottom-line Christianity right from the start … . It wasn’t something you had to wait for until the end of time. Being a Christian was always about living by faith in Jesus’ sovereign lordship in a world which didn’t much look like he was in charge.

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. A

nd surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

1 John 3:8b (NIV)
The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.

1 Corinthians 15:57b (NIV)
He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Stanley Hauerwas
Our salvation comes only when we cease trying to interpret Jesus’ story in light of our history, and instead we interpret ourselves in light of his.

1 Peter 3:15a (NIV)
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord.
