Our Text:
Acts 9:36-42
“Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity. 37 In those days she became ill and died, and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. 38 Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him, “Please come to us without delay. So Peter rose and went with them. And when he arrived, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them. 40 But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up.And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then, calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive. 42 And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. 43 And he stayed in Joppa for many days with one Simon, a tanner.”

“Arise” -( Greek )means to “cause someone to live again”

Note:
A: Peter is NOT the “

” of her “living again”!
B: the reason God caused Tabitha/Dorcas to “arise” is to cause “many (to) in the Lord”.

POINT: Clearly God had a purpose

than anyone saw in that miracle!

POINT: What we do know is that God used her awakening, her ”New

”, to bring many people back to …..to faith in Jesus!

“We were dead in our trespasses and sin” - Ephesians 2:1

POINT: The dead can’t “arise” themselves….they must be

!

NOTE: We “lose” our

when we come to faith!

POINT: But the spiritual reality is that this is the absolutely …..the

!

“Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” - Romans 6:3-4

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” - 2 Corinthians 5:17

POINT: And the “newness of life” is the resurrection of Jesus becoming

resurrection!

POINT: As we are connected with Him through His death and resurrection, we are also connected to His

!

Q: Is your life focused on and dedicated TO His mission?

POINT: He was resurrected so that you could be resurrected from your dead life and receive a

.

Q: Now how does that happen?

A: First….

God has MORE for you!
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” - Ephesians 2:10

Q: So how do we do that?
A: Well, that will begin with faith….believing what God says in His Word…and then

….being willing to “ask, seek and knock” in prayer….in …and in perseverance!
