Everyday Jesus Notes 5.22.22
May 21, 2022

Everyday Jesus: Everyday Jesus is a great way to deepen your Bible reading, prayer life & personal time with Christ.

• Monday: Read Ephesians 4:25-32;1 Thess 4:1-8; Job 31:1-4; 2 Cor 10:3-6 Putting off the old nature & putting on the new nature is typically presented as only partially possible or impossible. However, our Bible speaks differently! As you read each of these passages today, make a covenant with your eyes and pray to take captive every thought.
• Tuesday: Read Ephesians 4:1-32, Rom 6:6, Col 3:7, 9 Paul sees having put away falsehood as a completed act in the life of a Christian. Ask the Lord to show you where falsehood still hides in your life because the truth is in Christ.
• Wednesday: {Day of Fasting} Read Eph 4:25-32 We put away falsehood and speak the truth with our neighbor - for we are all connected. Pray to understand how your walk impacts others you come into contact with.
• Thursday: Read Eph 4:25-32, Genesis 4:1-7 In Eph 4:26 “Be angry and do not sin”. Can we really do that? {Hint: Read God’s conversation with Cain in Gen 4}. Today, pray through vv26-27, asking God to show you how to (1)be angry without getting out of alignment with Him, (2)deal with anger quickly (3)not give the devil room to operate in your life.
• Friday: Read Eph 4: 25-32, Colossians 3:5-11 The change of behavior/practices attached to the new nature are deeply woven into who a person is and they call for a total transformation of a person’s behavior/practices. So that, thief no longer steals but gives instead, language is transformed from destructive to building up, and instead of being out of alignment with God, we align with Him by putting away destructive behaviors of bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, slander, along with all anger. As you read today ask the Lord to continually transform you in Him - in every way.
• Saturday: Read Eph 4:25-32 Paul has been using a pattern (see Sermon Notes), until this point of the passage. This time, Paul doesn’t explicitly explain why we need the benefit of stopping a behavior and putting on a new behavior. It should be explained that when we align with Christ - that’s the benefit. So today, mediate on Paul’s final commands in this section - Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you.
