Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither
do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and
it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before
others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Ephesians 5:8-13
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. (Now this is a
very powerful use of words. Paul didn’t say to the Ephesians that they were in
darkness and now that they are in the light, he said that they were darkness and
now they are light this is the contrast that we will deal with next week. If you are
working with anyone who is not a believer then next Sunday is a great opportunity
to invite them to church.) Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists
in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have
nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is
shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything
exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes
a light.
Key Truth: We need to embrace and dispense the light.
John 12:46
I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should
stay in darkness.
