Hope for the Hurried Life
January 15, 2023

What if the greatest enemy to the life that you want is the life that you’re living?

“Hurry and love are incompatible.” —John Mark Comer, The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry

“God walks “slowly” because he is love. If he is not love he would have gone much faster. Love has its speed. It is an inner speed. It is a spiritual speed. It is a different kind of speed from the technological speed to which we are accustomed. It is “slow” yet it is lord over all other speeds since it is the speed of love.” —Kosuka Koyama, Three Mile an Hour God

Matthew 11:28-30

A Better Way

• The solution to our hurry is not having more time, but making time for the

man before the man.

Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.

the stuff that doesn’t matter so you can the things that matter most.

Matthew 6:31,33

…making the best use of time, because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5:16

• The

of your life defeats the of your life.

Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

Practice Slowing

• Get in the long grocery line.

• Drive in the slow lane.

• Set limits for social media.

• Turn off the TV.

• Control your phone don’t let your phone control you.

• Take long slow walks.

• Single-task.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 11:28-30

Our Prayer

God help me walk slowly enough to know Jesus intimately and love people genuinely.
