Sermon Notes:

7 – To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of Him Who is holy and true. Who holds the key of David. What He opens no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open.

8 – I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept My word and have not denied My name.

9 – I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars—I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you.

10 – Since you have kept My command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth.

11 – I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.

12 – Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of My God—and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of Heaven from My God; and I will also write on him My new name.

13 – He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. —Revelation 3:7-11

Jesus says four things to comfort the members of this church.

1.) “I will humble your .”

“I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars. I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you.” —Revelation 3:9

2.) “You will not go through the .”

“Since you have kept My command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world.” —Revelation 3:10

3.) “I will you.”

“Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of My God. Never again will he leave it.” —Revelation 3:12

4.) “I will give you a new .”

“I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from My God–and I will also write on him My new name.” —Revelation 3:12

“I have placed before you a DOOR—that no one can shut. As HE WHO HOLDS THE KEY OF DAVID, I have set before you a DOOR—a DOOR OF OPPORTUNITY that no one can close.” —Revelation 3:8

Characteristics that lead to God’s open doors.

1.) .

“I know you have LITTLE strength.” —Revelation 3:8

“Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing.” —Martin Luther

“I relive each moment of my visit with Corrie ten Boom. I recall how our eyes met as we were fed our cucumber sandwiches. Helpless and for the most part dependent, I felt our mutual weakness. Yet I am certain neither of us had ever felt stronger. It makes me think of the Cross of Christ–a symbol of weakness and humiliation, yet at the same time, a symbol of victory and strength—for a wheelchair may confine a body that is wasting away.

But no wheelchair can confine the soul—the soul that is inwardly renewed day by day. Paralyzed people can walk with the Lord. Speechless people can talk with the Almighty. Sightless people can see Jesus. Deaf people can hear the Word of God. And those like Corrie, their minds shadowy and obscure, can have the very mind of Christ.” —Joni Earekson Tada

“If you feel weak, limited, or ordinary, then you are the best material through which God can work.” —Henry Blackaby

“My grace is sufficient for you. FOR MY POWER IS MADE PERFECT IN WEAKNESS.” —2 Corinthians 12:9

2.) y-ness.

“You have kept My WORD.” —Revelation 3:8

“Oh, how I love Your law! I meditate on it all day long. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on Your statutes. I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey Your precepts. How sweet are Your Words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” —Psalm 119

3.) not.

“I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept My Word—AND HAVE NOT DENIED MY NAME.” —Revelation 3:8

“Hold on to what you have. Stand fast so that no one will take your crown. I know you have not WAVERED. You have not denied My Name.” —Revelation 3:11

Time of Decision and Commitment: Good, Good Father
