Joshua 1:8 NIV
8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
3 Reasons Jesus Came to Us:
1 John 3:8 NLT But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil.
Luke 19:10 NLT For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
John 10:10 NLT The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
Jesus is the standard for our attitudes:
Philippians 2:5 NLT You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
Some thoughts/truths about our attitude: It can be your Best friend or your worst enemy. It is your thought life turned inside out. It is a more honest reflection of who we are than the words we speak. It is the thing that either draws or repels people. People meet our attitude at the moment before they meet who we are or belief ourselves to be. It is the librarian of our past, the speaker of the present, and the prophet of the future.
“Nothing on earth can stop the person with the right attitude from succeeding, and nothing on earth can help the man with a poor attitude.” - Thomas Jefferson
“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” You are always hearing your own attitude.
Developing a Godly Attitude is Important!
God rewards good attitudes and disciplines bad attitudes:
James 4:6 NKJV But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
Proverbs 11:25 NIV A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
Proverbs 4:23 NLT
23 Guard your heart above all else,for it determines the course of your life.
Romans 12:2 NIV
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
The Holy Spirit Can Renew Our Attitudes:
Ephesians 4:21-24 NLT Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
God can and will and wants to give us the mind of Christ!
1 Corinthians 2:16 But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.
Deception – if my circumstances were different, I would have a better attitude.
Happiness isn’t a certain set of circumstances – it’s a certain set of attitudes.
Philippians 4:11-13 NIV
11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
God is looking to make two whole people into one, not two halves into a whole.
Genesis 2:24 NLT
24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.
TRUTH - No person and no situation can ultimately be the source of lasting happiness/joy - only a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ!
ATTITUDE KILLERS:
Wrong Expectations -
Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
Entitlement – people owe me and God owes me.
Negativity – always focusing on the problem
Pride – I’m better than this or them
Bitterness – God or those people have failed me or hurt me
Comparison – (and especially Comparing up) If you want to be unhappy, constantly compare yourself to those who are further along than you in life, or finances, or marriage or family, or finances.
Our Attitude Can Transcend Our Circumstances:
1 Thessalonians 5:12-15 NLT 12 Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance. 13 Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other. 14 Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. 15 See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people.
ATTITUDE BUILDERS:
Gratitude – Nothing guards and protects your attitude like gratitude.
Faith – I choose to focus on God and not the problem.
Humility – Be clothed with humility.
1 Peter 5:5 NIV In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”
Praise – it’s hard to be or stay in a negative attitude when we are praising God, because praise shifts our focus from our situation to our Savior.
Isaiah 61:3 NIV and provide for those who grieve in Zion– to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
Humility & Praise have to be “put on.” We must decide to clothe ourselves. God provides but we must decide.
Respect and honor – for everyone in my life – my spouse, my boss, my leaders
Servanthood – Every day is an opportunity for me to serve and bless others as Jesus has served and loved me.
Contentment – Doesn’t mean not wanting, desiring, pursuing more, just means I’m grateful with what I have today while I’m on the journey to God’s promises and provision.
Daily Decision & Dedication – Incline your heart. (attitude of plane – nose up or nose down?)

16 Always be joyful. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
