Abraham

7 Significant Events in Abraham’s Life to Motivate You to Keep Your Faith

First Event God’s invitation to Abram

“The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.

“I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”
Genesis 12:1-3

The land God gave Abram is modern day Israel.

Second Event Abram lies out of fear and God still helps him.

Third Event Abram interacts with Jesus before Jesus was born.

“Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram, saying,
“Blessed be Abram by God Most High,
Creator of heaven and earth.
And praise be to God Most High,
who delivered your enemies into your hand.”
Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.”
Genesis 14:18-20

Melchizedek was a pre-incarnate appearance of Jesus Christ.

“Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.”
Hebrews 7:3

Fourth Event God makes a covenant with Abram.

Fifth Event Abram has a child with Hagar

“When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. Then Sarai said to Abram, “You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my slave in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the Lord judge between you and me.”
Genesis 16:4b-5

“11 The angel of the Lord also said to her:

“You are now pregnant
and you will give birth to a son.
You shall name him Ishmael,
for the Lord has heard of your misery.
He will be a wild donkey of a man;
his hand will be against everyone
and everyone’s hand against him,
and he will live in hostility
toward all his brothers.”
Genesis 17:11-12

Muslims believe Ishmael was the blessed child

Jewish people and Christians believe Isaac was the blessed child.

Sixth Event God reveals Himself as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit

“The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.”
Genesis 18:1-2

Seventh Event God tells Abraham to sacrafice Isaac.

Abraham was told to sacrafice Isaac in the same spot where Jesus was crucified.

Even though he had many highs and lows, Abraham is recorded in the hall of faith in Hebrews 11.

“By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.”
Hebrews 11:8-12

Don’t point, praise.
